Charges pending in train, trailer collison

CHESTER, Ill. - The driver of a semi is facing charges after his truck collided with a Union Pacific Train Friday evening.

Illinois State Police Trooper David Sneed says the driver of the semi, 61 year-old Miguel Avila of El Paso, Texas, didn't stop at the activated railroad crossing signals.

The front of the train struck the Great Dane semi-trailer near the rear tandems. Trooper Snned says after the collison, the semi-trailer pivoted counterclockwise. While traveling to the northwest, the truck/tractor semi-trailer struck the railroad crossing signal on the east side of the crossing, an Ameren utility pole, and the railroad crossing control panel box. Mr. Avila was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash and was not injured.
