Construction projects planned for southern Illinois

Four road construction projects will soon get underway.

Thursday, Illinois Governor Pat Quinn approved bids for four road improvements in southern Illinois.

The work includes replacing a bridge on Twente Crossing Road in Alexander County.

Another project will resurface Gilead Church Road in Johnson County between U.S. Route 45 to Illinois Route 147.

The Mermet Lake State Fish and Wildlife area northwest of Metropolis will receive parking lot and road improvements.
Crews will resurface Route 937 in Pulaski County, starting at the EEI entrance and proceeding west about three miles.

In all, the improvements will cost the state $1.4 million.
