PULASKI COUNTY, Ill. - A mother and her two grown sons faced a Pulaski County judge Tuesday, accused of making methamphetamine in front of kids. What's even worse, one of those children was her own 8-year-old daughter.

Deputies were tipped off to the meth-making this weekend. On Saturday they caught a batch in progress.

This all happened at a home in Karnak, Illinois, located at 616 Jackson Street. Once investigators arrived, they found meth, all the ingredients to make it, and two underage girls at the house.

The Pulaski County State's Attorney charged the mom, Kimberly Leonard along with her two sons, Craig Leonard and Clarence Leonard, with a long list of meth-related offenses. That list also includes a child endangerment charge.

Officials said this is the first active meth lab they've stopped in the county.

"To get to the bathroom, you had to go through the room that had the meth lab in it," said Donna McCann, Pulaski County State's Attorney.

Investigators pulled two little girls from the home. One was a niece of Kimberly Leonard. Deputies took the other girl, her daughter, to the hospital in Marion, Illinois for testing.

"There were found some indications that she had been in the environment with meth, so there will probably be another case opening up there," said McCann.

Pulaski County Sheriff Randy Kern said it was a large quantity operation. Detectives walked away with bags of meth, scales, and other evidence.

Officials are glad they got the children out of harm's way.

"These little kids that are in these meth labs, their lungs can't take all that," said Kern.

The judge increased all three bonds Tuesday to $250,000. The family will be back in court on August 27th.

The state's attorney said the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services took the 8-year-old girl into their custody. The other child was released to her mother.
