House explodes in Du Quoin neighborhood

 Update: Police confirm that there was at least one fatality in the explosion. Many people who live in the immediate area have been evacuated.

Gas and power have been turned off in the entire neighborhood.

DU QUOIN, Ill. - Fire and police crews have reponded to a house explosion in Du Quoin.  

According to the Du Quoin, Illinois Police Department, the house exploded around 9:30  Sunday morning on South Lake Drive.

Authorities have blocked off the area, and several fire departments have responded.  The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.

Local 6 has a crew on the way to the scene, and we'll bring more information to you as it becomes available.
