Illinois man sentenced to 5 years for charging, shoving SIU police officer
JACKSON COUNTY, Ill. - An Illinois man has been sentenced to five years in prison for charging a Southern Illinois University police officer and knocking him down.
Jackson County State's Attorney Michael C. Carr says 19-year-old Donovan Pearson placed a .45 caliber handgun and ammunition in a friend's dorm room on the SIU Carbondale campus in March 2012.
SIU officials found the gun and ammo and an officer attempted to arrest Pearson. Pearson charged toward the officer and shoved him into a wall.
Pearson was charged with Aggravated Battery of a Police Officer, a felony.
