CARBONDALE, Ill. - A southern Illinois man is in jail after allegedly running from police with loaded gun.

On Saturday, July 20, Carbondale Police offices were on patrol in the 600 block of East Grand Avenue.  Around 2:20 a.m., police say they saw a man, later identified as 27-year-old DeWayne K. Davis , walking around with an open alcohol container.

When police tried to talk to him, they say Davis ran.

Police managed to catch him later.  That's when they found a handgund on his person.

Davis was arrested and charged with Resisting a Peace Officer, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Unlawful Use of a Weapon bya Felon, Defacement of Identification Marks of a Firearm, and for not having a valid Firearm Owner's Identification Card.

Davis was taken to the Jackson County Jail.
