JACKSON COUNTY, Ill. - A local hiker missing since Sunday afternoon has been found, and he's safe.

The family of 56-year-old Dana Troutman called police after he didn't return from a hike near Kinkaid Lake near Murphysboro, Illinois.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources and the Jackson County Sheriff's Department led the search for Troutman. Crews found him around 9:30 this morning.

Investigators say Troutman is an experienced hiker who knows the area well, but apparently got lost in the rough terrain.

"Somehow he got off the fire trail and got in some type of a ravine by a log and apparently that's where he spent the night," said Cpl. Mark WIlson with the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.

We're told that Troutman was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Murphysboro to be checked out. He had no serious injuries.
