FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ky. - New details on a former southern Illinois police officer charged with involuntary manslaughter.

A judge appointed a new attorney for William McKinney.

David Garavalia will now counsel McKinney.

His former attorney filed a motion last week to withdraw from the case.

The prosecution says McKinney responded to a call at Roy Barnhart's ex-wife's home in Franklin County.

The two were trying to settle a dispute over a trailer between their son and his estranged wife when the situation got violent.

Prosectuors say McKinney pushed Barnhart to the ground and hit him in the head while Barnhart was handcuffed.

He later died from a brain bleed.
