PINCKNEYVILLE, Ill. - A fire at a Pinckneyville home took the life of a man Wednesday night.

According to Pinckneyville Police Chief John Griffin, emergency workers received a call around 9 p.m. for a fire at 137 Wisconsin St.

When deputies and fire department crews arrived, they found 63-year-old Henry Bardle dead in a bed in the front part of the house. Investigation revealed the fire started in the front part of the house.

Officials say Bardle was a retired coal miner who smoked and was on oxygen.

The fire is under investigation, but no foul play is suspected. A state fire marshal was contacted last night to open an investigation.

An autopsy will be conducted later this morning, and preliminary results should be available this afternoon.
