UPDATE:

ISP has identified the man as 57 year-old William Mundy from Warren, Michigan.

ISP is still investigating how Mundy's body was hit. 

UNION COUNTY, Ill. - A body found on the side of an interstate in Illinois sparked an investigation by state police.

Just after 3 a.m. Friday, someone called police and told them about a pedestrian being struck on Interstate 57.

The person died as a result.

Illinois State Police say the pedestrian has not been identified.

Anyone in the area during the incident and has information for investigators should call Illinois State Police District 22 at (618) 845-3740, Ext. 292

UNION COUNTY, Ill. - Illinois State Police is investigating a body found early this morning on Interstate 57 in Union County, Illinois.

The body is in the inside southbound lane of the interstate between Exit 40 (Goreville Road) and Exit 36 (Lick Creek Road).

Southbound traffic is down to one lane at this time.

Police say the investigation began after a 911 call came in to the Union County Sheriff's Office from a driver around 3 a.m.
