Quiet weather year for Illinois when compared to 2012

It's been a quiet year for severe weather across the nation, but especially in Illinois.

Weather officials say the state's received only a third of the number of tornadoes typically recorded during a year.  Out of the twenty tornadoes recorded in Illinois, weather experts reported only two in southern Illinois.

A state climatologist attributed the trend to the wet and cool spring and dry summer.

Compare these numbers to those recorded in 2012 when 39 tornadoes hit the state.  That includes the one that left damage behind in Harrisburg.

The eight deaths recorded in the Harrisburg tornado accounted for all the tornado-related casualties the entire year.
