DU QUOIN, Ill.— Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn says attendance at the recently completed state fair in southern Illinois' Du Quoin rose 20 percent over last year, setting several one-day attendance records along the way.
Quinn says more than 365,000 people attended the fair, with the event posting its highest numbers on record for the first two days.
The opening-day crowd of more than 50,000 people on Aug. 23 was followed by a one-day record attendance of 65,000. Quinn says company picnics held at the fair drew thousands, helping boost turnout.
The fair's manager, John Rednour Jr., says attendance may have been even greater had a cooler-than-normal summer in the region not given way to hotter conditions once this year's fair started.
