Southern Illinois man dead, wife severely injured in crash

BENTON, Ill. - A West Frankfort, Illinois man is dead and his wife is severely injured after a truck crashed into a parked car Monday.

Benton Police say 76-year-old Cecil Bennett was driving northbound on Grand Street and he crossed Route 14 without stopping. He then drove his 2004 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck across a ditch, hitting a parked car in the parking lot of Fred's before coming to a stop.

Franklin County Coroner Marty Leffler pronounced Bennett dead at a local hospital. His wife, Helen, was flown to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. Her condition is not known.
