Southern Illinois man faces charges after aiming gun at police officer
ENERGY, Ill. - A Herrin, Illinois man is behind bars after he allegedly pulled a loaded gun on a police officer in Energy, Illinois.
The Energy Police Department says it was helping Herrin Police investigate a string of recent burglaries when an officer approached 36-year-old James Bell on South 18th Street shortly after midnight Wednesday.
Police say Bell did not comply with an order to remove his hands from his pockets and appeared to be moving his hands around. The officer then drew his weapon and again ordered Bell to raise his hands. Bell then pulled out a handgun and raised it at the officer.
After the officer gave Bell one final to warning to drop the gun or risk being shot, Bell dropped the weapon and was taken into custody. He is charged with Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon and taken to the Williamson County Jail.
