WICKLIFFE, Ky. - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has lifted all traffic restrictions on the US 51 Ohio River Bridge connecting Wickliffe, Kentucky and Cairo, Illinois.

The restrictions had been in place to replace joints and deck support beams on the bridge, which opened to traffic in 1936. About 35 percent of the 5,500 cars that cross the bridge each day is truck traffic.

With the work restriction in place, no vehicles wider than seven feet or longer than 19 feet were allowed to cross the bridge. That meant semis, trailers, motorhomes, large SUVs and trucks had to take an 80-mile detour.

The restrictions had been in place since July 29.
