HARRISBURG, Ill. - Whether it's on four wheels, or two feet, work to remove storm debris and rebuild Harrisburg is already under way.
"This is left of what he lived in. His house is all next door," said Kelly Carroll.
Wednesday's tornado leveled her uncle's home. He survived but it took pretty much everything with it except the front steps. Carroll is relying on volunteers to help sort through the belongings.
"It's amazing by how many people come out and just help one another," she said.
"People are desperate. They need help," said volunteer Brandon Heine.
He drove from Metropolis to pitch in. "Many, many people hurting. I've heard stories. I've actually known people that have been killed," Heine said.
He's a member of the Southern Baptist Convention - a national ministry team - that helps in disaster recovery.
"As long as we got jobs, we'll be here to serve the community, serve the people," he said.
For Carroll, Heine and his team are a blessing in a time when much of Harrisburg is in despair.
'Something like this happens, it's glad to know that there are people out there willing to help other people and not just think of themselves," Carroll said.
