Williamson County Sheriff's Office warns of phone scam
WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. - Williamson County Sheriff Bennie Vick is alerting residents to a phone scam that has been making the rounds recently.
The scam involves a male caller claiming to be from Publishers Clearing House. The caller tells the intended victim that he or she has won a prize and that it will be delivered later in the day. The victim is told that to cover Illinois taxes, they must purchase three Green-Dot Money Pak reloadable cards, then provide the card numbers to the caller.
Sheriff Vick is reminding residents to never give out personal information over the phone or transfer money to a person or business you are not very familiar with.
