Incident leaves WKCTC worker in hospital

UPDATE: 5:53 pm - Paducah Police report Roger Rives, 53, of Symsonia was the man assaulted while in a WKCTC computer lab.

Rives told police the suspect came up to him and asked if he knew a man named "Malcolm."  When Rives said he didn't, the suspect walked away.  Rives told officers the man then came back a few minutes later and started hitting him in the face and head.

Officers said when they arrived that the suspect appeared confused and was claiming Rives and the other man, "Malcolm," had tried to kill him on Friday by stabbing his car tire with a metal rod.

Rives was taken to a Paducah hospital to treat minor injuries.

The suspect was taken into custody on a charge of being mentally ill/a danger to self or others.

PADUCAH, KY - One man was arrested today after assaulting a worker at West Kentucky Community and Technical College.

A college spokesperson tells Local 6 at around 9:35 on Monday morning, a college staff member in a campus computer lab was assaulted by another person.

Police were immediately called and the person who committed the assault was taken into custody without any further incident.  The worker was taken to a nearby hospital and the spokesperson says the worker is stable.

The college stresses that they are still investigating the matter and they have a zero tolerance policy concerning violence.
