MARSHALL COUNTY, Ky—A ten year marriage ends with gunshots, the husband dead and the wife facing charges.  Investigators said the argument started after the couple came home after a day of target shooting and were putting away their weapons.

Marshall County, Kentucky deputies found 46 year old Jay Seaford unresponsive when they arrived.  He was declared dead a short time later.  Deputies said it happened around seven o'clock last night at the couple's home on Horace-Barnes Road right outside of Calvert City, Kentucky.

Deputies said she shot her husband Jay in the back with a handgun.  Their child was home when it happened.

Today, Rhonda Seaford, the woman accused of killing her husband of ten years, appeared in court.

She was charged with one account of murder in a domestic violence situation, which is a Class A felony. Investigators said Jay Seaford had fired two shots into the floor of this home and later Rhonda pulled the trigger shooting Jay in his back.

A close friend of the family, Tena Phillips, said it was unexpected.

"It's a tragedy. Jay was a son, he's a father, a brother, a uncle...He was a good guy, he had a good heart. I know he loved his family and his family loved him," said Phillips.

Byars said you never know what to expect in certain situations like this.

"It always surprises me in Marshall County and our community we like to think this is a nice, good, quiet community to live in but we do have our issues as well as other surrounding counties and when something like this arises we have to do with it as it comes," said Sheriff Byars.

Rhonda Seaford's preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 13.  Marshall County Detective Dan Melone is in Louisville, KY awaiting autopsy results.

The judge entered no guilty on Rhonda Seaford's behalf.  Sheriff Byars said the 13-year-old son, that was inside at the time of the shooting, is with family members.

Jay Seaford's funeral arrangements haven't been made yet, but close friend of the family, Tena Phillips, said it should be later this week.
