MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. - An American flag at the center of a controversy involving an art project at a local school will be burned by week's end.

On Monday, McCracken County school leaders learned of an art teacher's project at the new high school.

In the above picture, you see an American flag on the floor in a hallway.

According to students, the assignment was to reflect on how putting the flag on the ground made them feel.

They were then asked to write down their thoughts on paper located on the music stand on top of the flag.

The art project upset many students and some parents.

Local 6 spoke with McCracken County superintendent Nancy Waldrop by phone Thursday.  She said an investigation into the matter is ongoing and would not release the name of the art teacher involved citing it as a personnel issue.

Burning is the proper way to dispose of a flag.

Waldrop says that will take place Friday at 1:30 p.m.
