FRANKFORT, Ky. - Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear announced a U.S. Department of Labor grant of nearly $1.3 million to help the unemployed return to work.

The governor's office says the grant will be used to conduct assessments at career centers throughout the commonwealth in an effort to help people return to the workforce.

“These grants will help individuals facing unemployment get back to work quicker by giving them individualized services,” said Gov. Beshear. “Studies have found that when efforts are increased to assist claimants in finding employment through individual services, they have shorter claim durations and fewer erroneous payments are made.”

Kentucky's unemployment rate was measured at 8.4 percent in June, nearly a full percentage point higher than the national rate.
