Campaign launched against planned McConnell speech at Murray State University

MURRAY, Ky. - There's now a campaign against Murray State University's decision to have U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell speak at the 2013 Spring Commencement.

The Murray State College Democrats started a Facebook and Twitter page called "Ditch Mitch, Murray State."

On the Facebook page, faculty and soon-to-be graduates are encouraged to petition to the Board of Regents to cancel McConnell's speech.  That ceremony is set for May 11.

Local 6 reached out to McConnell's office and received this response:

"I am honored for this privilege to address Murray State University's graduating class of 2013. President Dunn, the faculty, staff, and students are helping to move our commonwealth forward through innovative teaching, groundbreaking research, and a commitment to excellence in service."
