Changes coming to Kentucky vehicle registration

Drivers in Kentucky will notice a change next year when they go to register their vehicles.

The state plans to join 38 others using a "plate-to-customer" format instead of the current "plate-to-vehicle."

What this change means is that, beginning in 2014, when someone sells or trades a vehicle, he or she will keep the license plate from the car, along with the registration decal he or she paid for at renewal time.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokeswoman Lisa Tolliver told The Paducah Sun that the change is meant to make the process easier for customers.
Tolliver says the state hopes to roll it out on January 1, 2014.
