Computer glitch overcharges Atmos Energy customers
PADUCAH, Ky. - About 27,000 Atmos Energy customers have been accidentally charged 10 times the amount of their bill because of a glitch in their automatic billing program. 1,400 of those customers are in Kentucky.
As of Monday afternoon, company officials estimated about 98% of the problem state-wide had been resolved, but encourages those affected to call 1-888-286-6700 or e-mail them at AssistCSC@atmosenergy.com. Officials said e-mail will likely get a faster response.
Kay Coomes, Manager of Public Relations for Atmos, told WPSD it was an isolated incident that was caught on Sunday.
As a result, customers like Scottye Williams will have to wait 24 to 72 hours to get her money back. ATMOS pulled $580.00 out of her account. She said, luckily, she has overdraft protection, but needs that money to help her run her small business.
