County Humane Society volunteer charged with stealing from agency
McCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. - A volunteer with the McCracken County Humane Society is charged with stealing from the agency.
On June 10th, the director of the McCracken County Humane Society contacted the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department regarding a theft of cash, which is believed to have occurred on June 8th.
Several employees and volunteers were questioned at the time of the investigation, but no leads were obtained at that time.
On June 14th, the director contacted the sheriff’s department regarding another theft of cash, which is believed to have occurred on June 12th. At that time, a decision was made by detectives to place hidden surveillance cameras at the Humane Society, in an attempt to identify the perpetrator.
Saturday morning detectives were contacted by an employee of the Humane Society, regarding additional cash being taken. Detectives responded to the Humane Society and reviewed the surveillance video. Upon reviewing the video, Erika Bellamy, 33, was observed taking the money.
When detectives confronted Bellamy, $170 was recovered from her. Bellamy also admitted to being involved in the two previous thefts, which totaled approximately $350. Bellamy was arrested and taken in the McCracken Regional Jail.
She is charged with receiving stolen propoerty under $500. Additional theft charges are pending.
