PADUCAH, Ky. (AP) - A former Paducah fire chief has pleaded guilty to raping a pre-teen girl three decades ago.
Circuit Judge Craig Clymer accepted 62-year-old Barry Arant's plea on Thursday in McCracken Circuit Court. Arant admitted to raping the 11-year-old girl in 1982.
The plea agreement with prosecutors calls for Arant to serve 6-1/2 years each for second-degree rape and second-degree sodomy, with the sentences to run consecutively for a total of 13 years. Formal sentencing will be June 5.
Arant was arrested in January after a woman came forward.
The Paducah Sun reported that Arant is required to register as a lifetime sex offender.
Arant retired in July 2000 after 25 years as a Paducah firefighter and assistant fire chief.
