MARSHALL COUNTY, Ky. - Lori Scott struggles to talk about her son Jacob in past tense.
"Everyday the thought never leaves your mind. You always wonder who he would be today. So, it's tough," she said.
So too are the memories surrounding his death. It was on these waters in February 2009 where Jacob's body would be found 45 days after he was first reported missing. A duck hunting trip with friends resulted in heartbreak for the scott's and two other families.
"The only thing that has been able to get us through is our faith in God. Faith, family and friends have carried us through," Scott said.
And that's the message she wants others to hear. Scott plans to talk to teens and parents about the loss of her son at the annual sports rally for christ at Graves County High School on Sunday.
"There's hope for others who lost loved ones. We just think it's a strong message to send to others who have been through this," she said.
Scott and her family seldomly visit the memorial volunteers built to honor the teens. "Our immediate thought, we don't want to ever want to come back here," Scott said.
But as the years go by, she finds comfort in knowing her faith will allow her to see her son again.
