Fighting for the right to fish
LYON COUNTY, Ky.— The Army Corps of Engineers wants to install barriers along portions of the river to block fishing access to the tail waters of 10 Kentucky and Tennessee dams, including Barkley Dam. It's an unpopular plan, but the corps is pressing on.
The project would cost an estimated 2.6 million dollars. Local leaders have spoken out against it. They're fearful the plan will hurt the local tourism industry and ruin the way of life for commercial and amateur fisherman. Now some state and federal leaders are backing a new piece of legislation that would stop the corps.
