Friends remember 9-year-old drowning victim
PRINCETON, Ky. - Warren Patterson just finished up the 4th grade at Caldwell County Elementary School. He planned to spend the summer playing baseball and hanging out with friends.
On Wednesday afternoon, he got the opportunity to go jet-skiing with his cousin and her friends and jumped at the chance. He was last seen near a playground on Kuttawa Beach around 4:30 that afternoon. When the group, who was jet-skiing, returned to shore, Warren could not be found. A search began- lasting 6 hours- and ended with his body being pulled from the waters around 11:30.
On Thursday, the coroner said Warren had died as a result of drowning.
His teacher, Stacy Travis said she was 'heartbroken' to get the news.
"He was the kid every teacher would want," she said, adding, "Any kid you could sit him down next to and he'd be a friend to him."
Those friends said Warren was a good friend who liked hunting, fishing, and playing Nintendo Wii bowling.
His friend Ian Wall said the pair had big plans beyond the summer, "We were going to be friends for the rest of our lives."
Travis says next school year will be tough, "You'd see him in assemblies, he'd get his name called out, his name won't be called out next year. It's going to be hard not seeing him."
The First Southern Bank in Princeton, located on 101 West Washington Street, has established a fund for Patterson. Anyone interested in making a donation to help cover burial expenses is asked to go there and mention that account.
Visitation will be this Saturday from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Morgan Funeral Home. The funeral will be Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. The family is asking in lieu of flowers, donations be made to that account to help with the funeral.
