FRANKFORT, Ky. - Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear signed into law a bill designed to increase protections for victims of human trafficking.

House Bill 3, also known as the Human Trafficking Victims Rights Act, increases penalties and prison sentences for those who exploit children for sexual purposes. The bill also provides training for victims, advocates and police officers to help them better recognize signs of human trafficking.

In addition, the new law will allow police and prosecutors to seize the assets of those involved in human trafficking and direct proceeds from those items to pay for victim services.
