LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Louisville police are investigating the death of an infant whose body was found inside a department store restroom.
Investigators aren't sure whether the baby was born alive. Police spokeswoman Alicia Smiley told The Courier-Journal the infant appeared to be close to term although investigators aren't certain.
Smiley would not discuss whether evidence indicated the baby was born at the Kohl's department store in southern Jefferson County, where police were called around 5:45 p.m. EDT Thursday.
Smiley didn't know the baby's gender and wouldn't say whether the child was in the men's or women's restroom. She also declined to say whether the baby was found in a trash can, as a dispatcher said earlier.
Smiley said police were reviewing surveillance video and interviewing employees.
