FRANKFORT, Ky. - Kentucky students continue to excel in reading, and are on par or slightly below the national average in mathematics.

Students in both 4th and 8th grade reading scored about the national average for public school students.

In 4th grade math, Kentucky students scored the same as the national average. While in 8th grade math, Kentucky students scored the same as testing back in 2011 which is still slightly below the national average.

This year, the Kentucky Department of Education encouraged schools to include all students in the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) testing, including those students who were enrolled in an Individual Education Plan (IEP).

More students with disabilities and limited English proficiency completed the test without special assistance or accommodation.
