Kentucky Transportation Cabinet explains long stretch of I-24 lane closures

PADUCAH, Ky. - Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokesperson Keith Todd says there is a reason they've taken a stretch of Interstate 24 down to one lane for construction from mile marker 10 to mile marker 3.

He says the contractors need a closed lane to allow safe movement of trucks and equipment from site to site. He adds that it also cuts down on the number of merge points that can cause accidents for drivers and workers.

Todd says it is safer for the lane restriction to continue along the entire work zone rather than have vehicles weaving in and out and speeding up at multiple locations.

The work zone will be taken down for the Paducah Quilt Show later this month.
