MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. - As budget workshops continue in one local county, a local coroner's office is concered about the increase in the number of pauper burials.

Those are burials paid for by the public when the deceased member's family don't have the money to pay for a proper burial.

At Tuesday night's meeting, the McCracken County Coroner's Office says they've spent $48,000 on pauper burials this year.  That's up from $41,000 last year and $33,000 just three years ago.

Next year, they're asking for even more:  $60,000.

It usually costs the cororner's office about $1,000 per pauper burial.

Local funeral homes are often hurt as well, as many write off anywhere from $30,000 to $50,000 a year to help get the county's poor buried.
