CALVERT CITY, Ky. - A skate park is saved.  Tthat's the decision from the Calvert City Commission.

After weeks of debate, a group called The Skate Park Association of Calvert City convinced commissioners that the north park facility should remain open.

Now the $50,000 set aside for park improvements will be divided between the skate park and the basketball courts so they can each have a makeover.

"It's been a long time comin'. We've had a lot of community support. A lot of people getting together to try to get this right and try to keep the park alive for the kids. I think it really is a long time comin'," skateboarding fan Lance Gregory said.

One of the arguments against keeping the park had been too much trouble there, but when commissioners took another look at the number of police calls, they found only about one every two weeks and decided that was not an alarming number.
