Lone Oak teen dies a day after Paducah crash

UPDATE (Friday, 8:55 a.m.):  McCracken County Sheriff Jon Hayden tells Local 6 18-year-old Carson Oakley died around 4 a.m. at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Hayden says the family wants to let everyone know that they appreciate the thoughts and prayers of the community.

Several of Oakley’s organs will be donated. She was a senior at Lone Oak High School.

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. - Deputies are investigating a crash that injured a local teenager in the 700 block of Highland Church Road in Paducah.

The crash occurred just before 8 a.m. when 18-year-old Carson Oakley drove her 2000 Nissan Maxima off the roadway while rounding a curve. Deputies say she overcorrected, causing the car to go into a ditch, then roll over.

The car landed on a wooden fence, trapping Oakley inside. Crews from the Lone Oak Fire Department and Mercy Regional EMS stabilized the car, then removed Oakley and transferred her to Baptist Health Paducah. She remains in critical condition.

There were no passengers inside the vehicle at the time of the crash.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
