Mayfield man in jail after high-speed chase with 16-month-old in car
MAYFIELD, Ky. - A Mayfield man faces several charges after leading police on a high-speed chase with a 16-month-old child in his car, then swallowing crack cocaine.
Graves County Sheriff Dewayne Redmon says 25-year-old Jarrett Jones was clocked driving more than 15 mph over the speed limit on KY 80 eastbound. A Graves County deputy and a trooper with the Kentucky State Police attempted to pull Jones over, but Jones continued at a high rate of speed.
Sheriff Redmon says Jones eventually turned off the highway and into a field, where officers approached the car. Police suspected Jones to be under the influence and began conducting field sobriety tests.
Officers found what appeared to be crack cocaine inside Jones's mouth during a field sobriety test. Jones then began struggling with the officers and was wrestled to the ground, where he swallowed the cocaine.
Following Jones's arrest, officers found a 16-month-old child in the back seat of the car, along with other items that are allegedly related to the sale of illegal drugs.
Jones was taken to a local hospital, then transferred to the Graves County Jail. He is charged with DUI 1st aggravated, Speeding 15 mph over the limit, Wanton Endangerment 1st, Fleeing and Evading 1st, Resisting Arrest, Trafficking in Controlled Substance 1st degree 2nd offense, Tampering with Physical Evidence, No Operators License and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
