McCracken County crash knocks down power lines, injures 2
MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. - Two people were hospitalized and one faces a DUI charge after a crash in McCracken County that knocked down a utility pole and power lines.
The McCracken County Sheriff's Department says 37-year-old Shawn Moore, of Paducah, was driving a 1998 Ford Explorer eastbound near the 1000 block of Oaks Road on Wednesday night. Moore's vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole, knocking down the pole and power lines. The wires landed on top of the vehicle, trapping Moore and his passenger, 40-year-old Tera Conner, inside.
Emergency crews freed Moore and Conner from the vehicle after safely removing the power lines. Both were trapped for nearly an hour while crews worked to free them. They were then taken to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
The sheriff's department says alcohol was the main factor in the crash, which left several homes on Oaks Road without power while the pole and wires were replaced. Oaks Road was also closed for about four hours following the crash.
Moore was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Drugs/Alcohol 1st Offense (Aggravating Circumstances), Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree and Criminal Mischief 1st Degree.
