PADUCAH, Ky. - As investigators continue to search for the person responsible for the Boston Marathon bombings, police in Paducah are preparing for a big event of their own.

The American Quilters Society Show and Contest kicks off April 24 and organizers have already met with police.

"I think Paducah is a very safe place to be and I think our police force and fire department are on top of everything and I know they're prepared," said Meredith Schroeder, President of the American Quilters Society. "I don't think there's any need to be afraid."

Sgt. George Johnson with Paducah Police agrees, but said it never hurts for people to be more observant.  "Be aware of your surroundings," he said. "If you see something that causes you to be suspicious or causes you to be uneasy, contact somebody. Lets us check it out."

Johnson said there won't be any major changes to their already thorough safety plan. He said officers will work along side private security to patrol the crowds.
