PADUCAH - Republican Rand Paul's win over Democrat Jack Conway in the race for the U.S. Senate seat marks a major triumph for the tea party.

From the very beginning of his campaign, Paul ran on tea party principles.

Tuesday night, that paid off.

Tea party members and supporters said they've worked hard to make this night happen and it finally did.

Lots of people gathered at the McCracken County Republican headquarters, closely watching the races on television.

Major media outlets declared Rand Paul the victor around 6 o'clock Tuesday evening.  That's when the celebration really started.

One young woman who has been on the phone making campaign calls for Senator-elect Paul for months said tonight's win has huge implications for the entire nation and the tea party itself.

"It shows that the people have related with the tea party and it shows the tea party really reflects the people's views and opinions right now," said Jenaye White.

She sent out a big thank you to all the other volunteers who spent so much time on the phone and knocking on doors. She said the victory would not have been possible without all of them.
