Police investigating suspicious package

News Producer -- Catlin Bogard

One of Paducah’s busiest roadways was shut down for about two hours Friday afternoon after a suspicious package was found at a local business.

The Paducah Police Department’s Bomb Squad was dispatched after an employee of Smoke Shop found an off-white, hard case suitcase outside the store around 1:15 p.m.

During the investigation of the package, Lone Oak Rd. from Bleich Rd. to Interstate 24 was blocked off for about an hour and a half.

The bomb squad used a portable x-ray machine to examine the suitcase and determined it was empty.

The suitcase was seized as evidence.

An investigation into who left the suitcase at the business, and why, is continuing.
