Almost $1,500 stolen from elderly woman

 McCRACKEN Co, Ky - An elderly woman had almost $1,500 stolen from her bank account in forged checks before the theft was noticed.

Ms. Elsie Cathey, 86 noticed her check book had been stolen and reported the incident to authorities Saturday, January 25th.

Deputies began investigation and found that the check book had been stolen in December 2013.

Sixteen checks total had been forged using Ms. Cathey's information since the theft.

Eleven checks had been forged at local stores in Kentucky and five checks forged in Indiana.

All sixteen forged checks totaled just under $1,500 from the victim's bank account before being noticed and reported to authorities.

Deputies were able to quickly locate the suspect, Rebecca Cox, 20 from Lone Oak.

She was brought in for questioning, and upon being presented with evidence, Ms. Cox confessed to stealing and forging all of the checks.

Ms. Cox was placed under arrested and lodged in the McCracken County Jail on several forgery charges for the eleven checks that had been forged in Kentucky. 

The five checks that were forged in Indiana are still under investigation.
