Train derails, causes detour in Hopkins County
MORTONS GAP, Ky. - The Kentucky State Police responded to a train derailment that occurred on US41/Hopkinsville Road, between Mortons Gap and Nortonville, on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 3:30 p.m.
Upon arrival, Troopers discovered 15 rail cars had derailed and were on their sides. All cars were empty and no one was injured. The State Highway Department was notified and has a detour set up while CSX crews work on getting the cars back on the rails. The roadway, between South Hopkins Middle School and KY 813, could be closed for approximately 18 hours.
