Under one roof: mother moves in to help daughter

MURRAY, Ky. - Most every parent has a dream for their children--going to college, living on their own, or starting their own family. And many of the same parents have dreams for their own lives like retirement and spoiling their grandchildren.

But more often than not, these plans don't turn out like expected.

3 in 10 "kids" between 25 and 34 years old have lived with their parents in recent years.

And between 2000 and 2007 there was a 67% increase in the number of parents who lived with their children. 75% of those parents who live with their kids are under 65 years old.

One local family is part of that statistic and say they live together to help each other out.

Bunice Bivens moved in with her daughter Melissa after Melissa went through a divorce. As a single mother, she couldn't afford daycare for her children and still pay the bills.

Bunice doesn't have to pay rent, she just has to make sure her grandchildren are taken care of.

She cooks, cleans and helps the kids with their homework, and says it makes her happy to help.

 

"Someone asked me, Why don't you get your own life? Go live by yourself? And I said it's cause I would be lonely. I would be so lonely because I'm so used to having them here with me and I love it."
