PADUCAH, KY-   Sitting in a green fold up chair, Kyle Kauffmann busies himself playing with his iPhone.

He'll be spending 20 hours in the same spot, waiting to get a new one.

"I was off for the past 2 days and I was thinking I wasn't doing anything," Kauffmann said of arriving at noon to the AT&T store on Hinkelville Road.

He was the first in line for the new iPhone 5, which will not be available until the following morning.

"It was hard to sleep last night.  I felt like that kid on Christmas, gotta get it. I can't wait to open up my present," he said Thursday of his excitement.

But getting that 'Christmas present' means camping out overnight with two friends, alternating for bathroom breaks, and surviving on Lunchables and energy drinks.

A few doors down, Verizon store manager Wayne Bolton promised people like Kauffmann would not be disappointed.

"This is the phone worth waiting for."

The first iPhone 5 had arrived there earlier in the day. Bolton says he is most impressed with an app called Powerbook- a one stop shop for coupons and store discount cards and a new navigation system.

They are both features Kauffmann cannot wait to put to use, "It's definitely going to be exciting, well worth the 20 hour wait."

Verizon and AT&T will both be open an hour early at 8 a.m. Friday.  Some Radio Shack, Best Buy, and Target stores will also have the phone.

No store, however, was able to confirm just how many phones are expected in the first shipment.
