MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY-  After 6 years on the Paducah City Commission, Gerald Watkins is preparing to head to Frankfort.

The Democrat learned of his victory shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday.  Watkins will now serve as the Kentucky House District 3 Representative.  After 2 terms, Republican Brent Housman announced last year he would not seek re-election.

Watkins ended up with 58% of the vote, with 9,349.  Republican newcomer Jason Crockett won 6,704 votes.

Watkins tells Local 6 he is not leaving Paducah, rather heading to Frankfort to help McCracken County.  He says he will focus on bringing new industry and a 4 year university to the county.
