University of Kentucky trustees have approved a $2.7 billion spending plan for the coming year. The spending blueprint amounts to an increase of 2.7 percent, or $71 million, over the budget for the current academic year.

Officials say a bus carrying students on a college campus visit crashed on a Kentucky interstate and more than three dozen people were taken to area hospitals. School spokesman Ben Jackey says the bus had 42 people aboard and all were taken to area hospitals.
