2 people, including police officer, injured in Carbondale crash

CARBONDALE, Ill. - A police officer and one other person are injured after getting into a wreck.

It happened just after 7 this morning on Route 13, about one mile east of Giant City Road.

Preliminary investigation shows three vehicles were traveling eastbound on Route 13 when the Carbondale Police cruiser slowed down. Then the driver of a Toyota Rav 4 hit the cruiser.

The dump truck tried to avoid hitting the Rav 4 and slid sideways into the bridge.

Both the officer and the driver of the Rav 4 sustained injuries, but we don't yet know the extent.

The stretch of road re-opened this morning.
