MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. - The McCracken County Sheriff's Department is investigating the drowning of a toddler.

2-year-old Kaylea Lampkin died just after noon Thursday.

The incident happened around 10:30 a.m. on Gholson Road in West Paducah.

Sheriff Jon Hayden says the mother found the child and pulled her out of the pool.  She called 911 and dispatchers began giving her instructions on how to begin CPR.

Once emergency personnel arrived, they took over CPR and Lampkin was taken to Lourdes Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Besides the mother, an infant child was also at the home at the time of the incident.

An autopsy is planned Friday morning.

The investigation continues.
