NBC News--
Deputies in Clark County, Wisconsin have released the 911 call from a woman who reported herself driving drunk. Deputies say Mary Strey from Granton, 49, made the call about 2 miles from her home and pulled over at the request of the 911 dispatcher. A deputy showed up and administered a field sobriety test.
The report shows Granton registrered a breathalyzer result of 0.17, nearly twice the legal limit for driving. She was ticked for drunk driving. It was her first offense.
Here's the transcript of the 911 call:
Dispatcher: Clark County 911
Mary Strey: Somebody's really drunk driving down Granton Road…
Dispatcher: ...Which way are they going?
Mary Strey: They are going, um…
Dispatcher: Towards Granton or towards Neillsville?
Mary Strey: Towards Granton
Dispatcher: Okay are you behind them, or…
Mary Strey: No, I am them
Dispatcher: You am them?
Mary Strey: Yes, I am them
Dispatcher: Okay, so you want to call and report that you're driving drunk?
Mary Strey: Yes

I know it sounds funny, but it really isn't. Yes she did the right thing, but it was too late, by then she had broken the law and put others in danger. The police did their job. Had they not arrested her and just took her home that would have allowed her to do it again and then her next call may have been to report an accident. People who drive drunk and kill people are murderers. I am hoping this was her lesson learned and she never tries this again.

honesty doesnt dispell consequences, even though she called for herself half way home why didnt she call for herself before she got behind the wheel.....those miles pryor to calling could have killed an innocent person....i hope they throw the book at her

Serious matter but it is sad when the dispatcher's grammar is worse than the drunk driver. You am them. What is that? Maybe she was caught off guard at the..."I am them!!!" Anywho...at least no one got hurt.

How dare we say that they should have just followed her home,or that the law was wrong..She broke the law!!! How would you feel if she kept driving, and hit,or killed someone in your family..Thank God that she pulled over, and got off the road.

Come on this is crazy. They should of left her car on the side of the road and taken her home for the night and then she could of gotten the car in the morning. My goodness she was honest aren't we suppose to call for a driver if we had too much too drink. The law was so wrong. What if she didn't call she probably wouldgotten in a wreck.

It seems everyone thinks she should have kept driving. She sounds smarter than anyone else on this site so far.

"Dispatcher: You am them?" I guess proper English isn't a requirement to be a 911 operator?
